Classic Desert tour
Day 1: Marrakech – n’Tichka Pass - Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah - Dades Valley
We will meet you at your accommodation in Marrakech and start travelling to the Dades Valley via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and over the High Atlas Mountains. Today you will enjoy travelling through the dramatic pass and the fascinating views of the Berber villages and the amazing landscape changing as the day progresses. Your first stop will be at the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. Built by the last Berber chieftain El Glaoui Et-Hami in the late 19th century, it is now a UNESCO matrimonial historical site, which today still houses many Glaoui family members. Lunch by the Kasbah and continue to the Dades Gorge through the road of “the Thousand Kasbahs”, which offers many fine photo opportunities of nature and people. Your first stop will be at Skoura in the birds valley to see the standing 18th century Kasbah of Ameridhil, we’ll get to Kalaat Mgouna - famous for roses and its annual festival during the roses harvest in May then Dades valley. Overnight at Hotel Xaluca dades or similar. Half Board (HB).
Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Rissani - Merzouga
From Boumalene Dades we will head to Merzouga passing through the Berber village of Tinghir and the Todra Gorge where the cliffs are as high as 600m and only 10m wide. We will then pass through several Berber villages, stopping for lunch at either Tinghir or Tinjdad. After lunch, your journey continues to Merzouga via Erfoud through the oasis of Tafilalet, the largest date palm grove in Morocco. You will have the opportunity to walk in the authentic souk of Rissani during the day market ( 3 times a week: Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday) , and learn about the trading caravans travelling as far as Timbuctu in Mali. Get to Merzouga in the afternoon and check in to your riad.
Day 3: Merzouga area and the Camel trek
After breakfast in your riad, you will start the journey exploring the area; you will visit the nomads in their goat hair tent and learn about the desert life. Afterwards, you visit the Gnaoua people, originally slaves brought from Sudan; here you will have the opportunity to listen to their music and learn about their culture and lifestyle. Depending on the time of year you visit, you may have a visit to the lake of Merzouga and its bird population such as the “Flamingos”. After lunch, you will mount your camel, guided by an experienced camel man, to explore within the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. You will enjoy the beauty of the Sahara desert and the sunset over the golden dunes. After the sunset you will enjoy your dinner in front of the camp where you will spend your first nigh under the glimmering stars of the Sahara. (HB).
Day 4: Merzouga - Ziz Valley - Midlet - Azrou - Fes
Before sunrise,the camp staff will wake you up to ascend the dunes and find the sun emerge above the horizon. after having enough time enjoying the sunrise view, we will descend from the Dunes to get ready for our breakfast. After that we can either take the camels back to the same place we picked up or just continue our way with our car. We will start travelling to Fes via the Ziz Valley and Azrou. You will enjoy the fascinating landscape along the magnificent Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock, and through the Tizi n’ Talghamt Pass to Midelt. After lunch, you will continue through the Midlle Atlas Mountains and the Cedar Forest ,where you will see the Barbarian apes in the wild. Continue to Fes, where the tour ends at your accommodation.
Authentic Desert Tour
Day 1 : Marrakech - Ait Benhaddou - Boumalene du Dades
After collection at your riad/hotel in Marrakesh we will set off for the Dades Gorges. Passing through Tizi-n-Tishka in the High Atlas Mountains we will visit the UNESCO World heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou which has also been the backdrop for many films including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Alexander. After lunch we’ll enjoy the beautiful natural landscapes and historical monuments of Taourirt Kasbah in Ourzazate and the Valley of the Roses, famous for its annual Festival of Roses. We’ll also pass through the Berber villages of El Kelaa des M'Gouna and Boumalene du Dades where we will spend the night.
Day 2 : Dades Gorges - Toudgha Gorges - Ramlia Village
After breakfast we will leave Boumalene du Dades for Ramlia, a hidden Berber village in the south of Morocco. We’ll pass through the dramatic Dades Valley and Toudgha Gorges, and Alnif, then continuing off road through Tazoulate, Fzou, Hi Fougani. We’ll have a picnic en route before reaching our destination of Ramlia where we will have chance to see and meet local people. We will spend the night in a small Berber guest house, aghbalouramlia guesthouse
Day 3 : Ramlia Village - Merzouga
After breakfast we’ll set off for Erg Chebbi, Merzouga, enjoying the desert landscapes, and passing through the grave stones of Taouz. We will then have an opportunity to hear the Gnawa music of Khamlia where we will have lunch in a small restaurant owned by a Gnawi person. Then it is a short drive to Merzouga village Merzouga on the foot of Erg Chebbi fantastic dunes, 20 km long and 5 to 8 km wide it is also reputed as the highest sand dunes in North Africa. It is a unique and diverse environment. Getting there, we will meet our camels to take us towards our upgraded Berber camp. On the way we will enjoy the amazing sand dunes and the striking beauty of the sunset. Our camp has well equipped tents with bathrooms facilities. After dinner we gather round the fire and enjoy the desert night perhaps with traditional Berber drums.
Day 4 : Merzouga - Fez
Before sunrise,the camp staff will wake you up to ascend the dunes and find the sun emerge above the horizon. after having enough time enjoying the sunrise view, we will descend from the Dunes to get ready for our breakfast. After that we can either take the camels back to the same place we picked up or just continue our way with our luxury cars.
We leave Merzouga on route to Fez, passing through many places: Arfoud, Errachidia, Ziz Valley, Medilt, Cedar Forests of Azrou, Ifrane and Fez. On a good day you might be able to catch a glimpse of the monkeys that live in the forests. We will stop for lunch along the way in one of the many restaurants. Our guide will make sure you reach your chosen Riad or Hotel. Here we will leave you at your Riad or Hotel at the end of the 3 days tour.
